The second region is active  for producing inorganic salts such as nitrates, sulfates, chlorides and hydroxides; linked to compounds of lithium, sodium and potassium; as well as iodine and boric acid. The production of these salts has culminated  historically with a major export without significant added value.

In global markets more refined salts are those with further refining processes to achieve higher levels of purity, thus obtained salts have the best prices. Currently in the world there are freely available technologies for their production with high potential for application to the characteristics of the Chilean deposits. This sets up an opportunity for Research, Development and Innovation (R + D + i), to add value to these products and products with a vision in the vast and valuable reserves present in region II.
